University of California San Diego
UC San Diego: Competitive Education for a Brighter Future
The University of California, San Diego is an educational mecca for those who are looking for an innovative and dynamic approach to education and research. The UCSD prides itself on its interdisciplinary ethos, as well as on its tradition of innovation, constantly pushing the envelope and taking risks which have served to strengthen the institution’s foundation as a leader in education, research, and public service.
As a burgeoning research facility, the UCSD receives over $1.9 billion. The school has had a huge economic impact, and has been hailed as an engine for regional economic growth. Countless UCSD faculty as well as alumni have spun-off close to 200 local companies, including over a third of the region’s biotechnological companies. The UCSD is San Diego County’s largest single employer, maintaining a workforce of over 23,500 employees.
With such excellent facilities, the UCSD receives the second highest application rate in the University of California system, and possibly the nation. Applications here are highly competitive, having 3.93 as the average GPA of enrolling freshmen, and average SAT scores of 1251. The UCSD provides graduate and professional schools as well, with highly specialized courses such as Oceanography, Global Conflict and Cooperation, and Research in Computing and the Arts, to name a few.
