The city of Pittsburg in California has always been thought of as very progressive and highly dynamic city. It is located at a point where San Joaquin and Sacramento rivers meet.
A city of both progress and much promise, the rich history of the city of Pittsburgh dates way back year 1839 where Mexican government granted around 10,000 acres of land to two gentlemen. Miguel Jose Garcia and Jose Antone Mesa were the lucky recipients of this big chunk of land that we now know as Pittsburgh, California.
There was actually a time where of Pittsburg was referred to as the New York of the Pacific. The name came about when Colonel J.D. Stevenson, a native of New York city, laid out the plan for the town of Pittsburgh – which eventually became popularly known as the New York Landing. This part of the town greatly thrived on the fishing as well as canning industries. In the year 1903, the discovery of coal in the Pittsburgh hills led to the renaming of this area to the “ Black Diamond “.
