City of Alameda

The City of Alameda got its name from a Spanish term that literally means grove of poplar trees. It is originally part of a long stretch of Spanish land that includes San Leandro and Berkley. By 1818, the Governor of California awarded the city to Luis Peralta who then gave it Antonio Peralta, his son.  By 1902, Alameda becomes a very popular shipping port when the Estuary was created joining San Leandro Bay and Oakland’s harbor.

To date, this humble city is making its way to progress as the city council and the city’s special communities joined forces to upgrade the quality of life in Alameda. It is now home to over 72,000 satisfied homeowners.

There’s actually a lot going on in the fair city of Alameda. A number of significant social issues are being brought up in order to address every possible issue of the community. Alameda is committed to uphold a peaceful society and strongly address any issues of the community. The residents actually have a community that helps out their sister city, Wuxi, China, with their need for English teachers. There has been a strong demand for capable and knowledgeable English teachers in Wuxi. In order to strengthen their ties with the Alameda community, the Wuxi community aims to be able to get applications from qualified members of the Alameda community.

To promote peace and harmony among its citizens, “No Hate Banners” are being put out all over the city. This project promote the Season of Non-violence to create awareness to the members of the Alameda community about the positive effects of non-violence as a better alternative to using force when it comes to making a stand.
